In Lightning Payroll, we offer annual subscriptions. When your subscription expires, the app goes into 'read-only' mode for a limited period. This means:
- Limited access period: You will have 7 days of free read-only access after your subscription expires. During this time, you can view and export reports and payslips for historical records. We provide this 7-day access so you can run all the reports and save PDFs and CSV files for any data you wish to keep before the lock-out period starts.
- Prolonged read-only access available: After the 7-day period, you will no longer be able to use the application without a valid subscription. However, we now offer a reduced-cost annual read-only subscription for users who require prolonged access to Lightning Payroll.
- Data preservation: Your existing data will remain safe and accessible until your subscription expires. Ensure you back up your data regularly.

It is important to maintain a copy of your database as financial records need to be kept for at least 7 years, according to the ATO. You can create a backup by navigating to Tools >> Create Backup in the program. Storing backups securely online or on multiple local storage devices ensures your data remains safe even if something happens to your computer.
