Answer
This article covers the online (web/mobile) app. For the desktop app, see How Can I Terminate an Employee (Basic)? and How Can I Terminate an Employee (Detailed)?.
To process a termination in the online app, open the employee's pay in the Pays screen and click the Terminate Employee button in the action dock at the bottom of the edit pay screen. If a termination has already been added to the pay, the button will show Edit instead.
Note: Termination details are saved to the pending pay and the employee is only marked as terminated once the pay is completed.
Australian companies ÔÇö Termination Wizard
For AU companies, clicking Terminate Employee opens the multi-step Termination Wizard. Use the Back and Next buttons to move through the steps. The Cancel button exits without terminating the employee.
- Introduction ÔÇö a brief overview of the wizard.
- Reason and date ÔÇö enter the termination date and select the STP cessation type (e.g. ordinary termination, genuine redundancy, ill-health). If the employee's date of birth is not on file, a screen will prompt you to enter it so ETP tax can be calculated correctly.
- Redundancy ÔÇö if you selected a genuine redundancy or early retirement scheme, enter the redundancy payout amount here. A calculated estimate is provided. Do not include payment in lieu of notice on this screen.
- Non-ETP payout options ÔÇö select which leave types to pay out on termination (e.g. unused annual leave, leave loading, long service leave). Deselect any leave types that are not to be paid. You can also enter any other non-ETP amounts here.
- ETP payout options ÔÇö enter any ETP amounts such as payment in lieu of notice. If no ETP items apply, click Next to skip this step.
- Advanced Settings (optional) ÔÇö review and, if necessary, edit the lump sum leave balances to be paid out. Access this from the ETP payout options step.
- Advanced ETP Settings (optional) ÔÇö review and edit ETP tax amounts where required, particularly useful for genuine redundancies.
- Termination Summary ÔÇö review the complete termination summary, including cessation code, payout options, and all payment amounts. If everything is correct, click Save to apply the termination to the pay.

After saving the termination, return to the pay and click Save to complete the pay as normal. The employee will be marked as terminated once the pay is processed.
New Zealand companies ÔÇö Employment Finish
For NZ companies, clicking Terminate Employee opens the Employment Finish form. This is a single screen that calculates the full final pay in one step.
- Enter the Employment finish date. The form will automatically calculate final pay and extra pay taxes from the pay input and the employee's leave balances.
- Review the calculated amounts. Tick Enter leave amounts manually if you need to override the automatic figures.
- If applicable, tick Pay payment in lieu of notice and enter the Payment in lieu amount.
- Enter a Redundancy amount if the employee is being made redundant.
- Enter any Additional termination amount for ex gratia or other one-off payments.
- Confirm the YTD taxable to finish date figure is correct, as this is used in the extra pay tax calculation.
- Click Save Termination to apply the settings to the pay.

Once the Employment Finish form is saved, complete the pay as normal. To remove a termination already attached to a pay, use the Remove termination option available within the edit pay screen.
