Answer
Lightning Payroll supports the ATO's SuperStream standard, which means you can send the required data and payment directly to Australian super funds without needing a clearing house. The following video and step-by-step guide will show you how to pay super using Lightning Payroll.
Before you begin:
Make sure you have completed the necessary setup steps. For instructions on checking your SuperStream setup, please see: How Do I Check If I Am Set Up For Super?
Overview of the Super Payment Process:
- Create Deposits: In the Super Fund Deposits screen, click Create Deposits. Select the date range and employees you want to pay super for, then click Create. You’ll be guided through some validation steps to confirm the details are correct.
- Send Messages (SuperStream): After reviewing and fixing any errors (only if they're detected), you'll be taken to the SuperStream Summary screen. Click Send Messages to send the contribution data to the super funds.
- Pay the Money: Once the SuperStream messages have been sent, click Direct Entry to generate your Direct Entry (ABA) file or use the Direct Entry report to pay the super funds through your banking system on the same day.
Remember, the entire process—creating deposits, sending SuperStream messages, and making the payment—must all happen on the same day. So don't start the process if you are not yet ready to make the payments.
