Answer
Lightning Payroll offers the same features, employee limits, and company limits on both monthly and annual subscriptions. The only difference is how you are billed.
Annual Subscriptions
- Paid once every 12 months.
- You can pay by credit card or by Direct Deposit (we issue an invoice).
- Auto-renewal is optional — you can turn it on or off at any time.
- If auto-renewal is on, we email a renewal notice about 30 days before expiry and a reminder 1 day before. If it is off, you renew manually before the expiry date.
Monthly Subscriptions
- Paid once each month.
- Credit card only — direct bank deposit is not available for monthly plans.
- While automatic renewal is on, your saved card is charged automatically on each renewal date. To stop a monthly subscription, turn automatic renewal off before the renewal date — it stays active until the end of the current month.
- No advance reminder is sent. You receive a confirmation and invoice on the day the subscription renews.
Things to Know
- If a renewal payment fails or is not received by the expiry date (for example, an expired card), what happens next depends on your renewal notice. If your notice described the late-payment grace period, we still renew your subscription on the expiry date so you keep full access for 7 days while you arrange payment, and we retry your saved card a few times if auto-renewal is on. Pay within 6 weeks (annual) or 4 weeks (monthly) of the expiry date and your new subscription simply runs from the original expiry date. After the 7 days without payment the software becomes read-only and then locks until you pay. If payment is not received within that window, the renewal is cancelled and nothing is owed — renewing after that starts a new subscription from the day you pay. If your notice did not describe this, the failed payment is not retried and the subscription expires, so you will need to renew manually.
- If you renew before your current period ends, the new period is added to the end of the existing one, so you do not lose any remaining time. If you renew manually after the subscription has expired, the new period starts from the day you pay.
- Refunds are not provided for unused time. See Can I Get a Refund or Is There a Money-Back Guarantee?
To manage your payment method or auto-renewal, log in and open Account Details >> Update credit card & auto renewals. On the Subscription & payment page, use Turn off automatic renewal or Turn on automatic renewal (one setting for every subscription on your account), and Update card to change your saved card.
