Answer
Before it builds super fund deposits, Lightning Payroll checks each employee's super fund. Employees whose super cannot be paid to a valid fund are left out of the batch rather than producing a deposit the fund would reject. The screen tells you who was left out and why.
Where you see it
The check runs on the Create Deposits wizard, reached from the Super Fund Deposits screen, and on Pays >> Payday Super. A message above the employee list explains that employees whose super cannot be paid to a valid fund are skipped, and that the totals show how much that leaves payable. Affected rows are highlighted, and in the desktop app you can hover over a row to read the reason.
The wizard also shows a separate total for the amount being left out, labelled Total (Invalid Fund) in the desktop app and Total (Invalid Fund Details) in the online app, alongside Total Payable (Valid Fund). Click Show Invalid Super Fund Information to list each affected employee, the fund involved, and the reason. After the deposits are created, a Some employees were skipped message repeats the list.
Why a fund is treated as invalid
- No primary super fund is set for the employee.
- No USI is recorded for an APRA-regulated fund.
- The USI is not valid for the payment date, for example because the fund's listing on the ATO fund register has ended.
- The fund's BSB is invalid, for funds paid by direct credit or direct debit.
- A self managed super fund has no electronic service address, or the address is out of date or not a recognised alias.
- The fund is set to a payment method that cannot be sent.
- PayTo or PayID is selected but Ozedi credentials have not been set up.
How to fix it
Attach the employee to a fund under Employees >> Super >> Superannuation Fund, or correct the fund's details under Settings >> Super Fund Providers, then create the deposits again. For PayTo and PayID, set up your credentials under Company >> Ozedi Superstream.
The check covers every fund attached to the employee's unpaid pays, including a salary sacrifice fund or a separate RESC fund, not just the primary one.
If the register could not be reached
A separate message says that some super funds could not be checked against the ATO fund register just now. That is a temporary problem reaching the register rather than a problem with the fund. Those employees are not skipped, but confirm their details before paying.
