Answer
Yes. Lightning Payroll can handle different super contribution types going to different funds, but the best setup depends on what the employee is trying to split.
For normal Payday Super processing, complete the setup first, then process the pay run through Pays >> Payday Super. Do not start ordinary Payday Super from the older Super Fund Deposits creation tools.
Best Option: Salary Sacrifice To A Second Fund
If the employee wants salary sacrifice amounts paid to a different fund from their Super Guarantee, set up the second fund as the salary sacrifice destination.
- Go to Employees >> Super >> Superannuation Fund.
- Add both active funds for the employee.
- Mark the fund that receives ordinary Super Guarantee as the primary fund.
- Go to Employees >> Pay Settings >> Salary/Wage Sacrifice.
- Link the salary sacrifice item to the secondary super fund.
Once this is set up, Lightning Payroll can send Super Guarantee to the primary fund and salary sacrifice RESC to the secondary fund when you process the pay through Payday Super.
Splitting Ordinary Super Guarantee
Lightning Payroll does not treat a percentage split of ordinary Super Guarantee between two funds as the standard setup. If an employee asks for this, first consider whether the request can be handled as salary sacrifice or by changing their primary fund from a future date.
If you genuinely need to manually divide a Super Guarantee amount between funds, treat it as an advanced manual adjustment. This may require editing existing deposit lines or creating an extra legacy/manual deposit line after the Payday Super batch has been created but before messages are sent. This should only be done when you understand the audit and SuperStream matching impact, or when Lightning Payroll support has walked you through it.
Manual Adjustment Rules
- The total across all fund deposits must equal the employee total super for the period.
- Each fund needs its own accurate member number, USI or SMSF details.
- Do not send SuperStream messages until the adjusted deposits are correct.
- Keep notes explaining why the split was manually adjusted.
- For future pays, prefer employee fund setup and salary sacrifice setup over repeated manual edits.
If you need help reviewing a split-super setup, contact Lightning Payroll support before sending the SuperStream messages or making the bank payment.
