Answer
If you have been told by the ATO that a software product ID is required when calling them for help with Single Touch Payroll, this is not correct for most Lightning Payroll users.
Desktop users: Lightning Payroll desktop sends STP directly to the ATO using a locally installed ATO Machine Credential (M2M). Desktop-based programs do not use a software ID (SSID). If the ATO asks for one, let them know you are using a desktop payroll application and need assistance with your machine credential instead. See our FAQ on creating a machine credential for setup steps.
Online and mobile app users: The Lightning Payroll web and mobile apps do use a software ID (SSID). Your SSID is displayed beside your company name in the app and must be registered with the ATO before you can send STP. See our FAQ on sending STP using Lightning Payroll for the full setup process.
Lightning Payroll is fully registered with the ATO as an STP-compliant Digital Service Provider (DSP). Our registered ABN is 41 133 738 682. If the ATO specifically requests our Single Touch Product ID, you can provide: 179468.
